Flew by!
I can't believe that it is over! And what a successful year it was! I have been truly blessed having 6A as my students this year. It has been a pleasure teaching all of you and if someone said I could keep you for the next 6 years I would say "sign me up!" Some Highlights: - Model Parliament - Flag Day Assembly Play - Using Microscopes and Extracting DNA - Peace Belts - Airfoils (teamwork!) Thank you for accompanying me on this journey of learning how to be a teacher. I learned a lot this year, from how to write a report card (no one told me they would be so much work!) to how to make an engaging math lesson, to how to solve girl/boy/everybody drama. 6A you taught me how to enforce the rules, but still be happy me. You taught me how to prepare a class for a PAT (start those practice questions in January!). You taught me that strong relationships are important, and that my students need to know that they are cared for, to trust me enough to make mistakes and learn. I hope you enjoyed this year as much as I did. I am teaching Grade 7 next year and count myself lucky! I know that many of you won't be in my class next year- but some of you will be next door, some of you will be in my complimentary courses and some of you are going to have to drop by and say hi more than you say hi to Mr. Evans (just sayin'). Families- I don't really check my email regularly over the summer. [email protected] is the best way to reach me in case you have an urgent question, concern, forms for a medical assessment, or something else I haven't thought of. While summer is often the best part of the year for many kids, for some kids summer is the worst part of the year, due to a variety of reasons. Students have been told if they need an adult that cares about them because of an emergency/a negative friend situation/something they need help with, they can reach me there. I have been a listening ear to A LOT of challenges and concerns over the year, and I view my role as an adult on your child's team very seriously. Peer support (teen to teen) is available online and over the phone between 5pm – 10pm daily. Outside of those hours, adult volunteers respond to calls. If your question is not urgent, you can send an email and they will get back to you within 24 to 48 hours. Thank you for the thoughtful gifts! As always, I am so grateful for your generosity! I will post a few pics tomorrow! :) Below you will find specific links and powerpoint presentations to review for the last PAT. The downloadable file is the PAT we didn't get to finish in class today. It is also on Quest A plus (Thanks Param!)
This week has been all about tackling the BEAST of PATs! We are 2/4 or 50% or 0.5 of the way done! We are shifting our focus to Math and Social Studies. I highly encourage students to review math. I have included resources below. The first is a powerpoint created by 6B. You can edit, comment and view. Please do not delete any of the information. The second is a similar powerpoint create by us. You can edit, comment and view. Please do not delete any of the information. The third is a link to Quest A plus. There is practice PATs located there. The fourth is a downloadable PAT exam that we haven't done a lot of work with, so the questions are still fresh.

This week flew by! At least for me, things have been non-stop and I apologize for not posting everyday. Homework: Every student has been assigned a slide (or two) to complete for our Math Review. Anyone with the link below can edit (you don't need a CBE account) on any device. Please include pictures, examples, problems etc. You can write out your ideas, take a picture and put it on the slide. You could also use google to find GOOD examples and use those pictures. I am counting on everyone to take the time to do this. I will continue updating the Science Powerpoint. Please review and read both the Science and Social Studies Powerpoint this weekend. All students should be studying every night for the PATs next week. Half an hour of study time over the course of the week is much more effective than cramming the night before. Trust me, I did 8 YEARS of multiple choice questions in university.... This week at school we:
We had another busy week at school...
