We did a lot of research this week! We are continuing to investigate wildfires in Science/Social Studies and different types of government. Each student is investigating either dictatorships, oligarchy, monarchy, anarchy or communism- ask them about it! (This project is due on Wednesday, October 4th)
Some other highlights include:

Here are a few reminders:
I would like to say THANK YOU to all the families who joined me for parent-teacher interviews. It was great to meet you all and gain additional understandings about your child as a learner and a person! If you need to contact me about anything, don't hesitate to call or email the school and I will my best to reply promptly.
We had another busy week! Here is a snapshot of what we learned about:
As requested I have included pictures of some of the posters I have in the class to help with Multiplication and Division strategies. I will be working on creating resource pages for each subject, so I can post additional websites, links and books to supplement your child's learning. Having a website is brand new to me, so I will do my best to make sure links, resources and pages work and that this is a useful tool for all of us. We have some amazing critical thinkers in the class, and I would like to share some of the questions the students created for the Mayoral Candidates: 1. Do you think the Green Line will be successful by being safe, on budget and built properly? How will you ensure this? 2. How will you control the increase of gas prices in the city? 3. Is it hard to agree with each other when you are discussing/making decisions? 4. Local Calgarians that own businesses have been struggling because of the taxes they have to pay. Will you lower the taxes for struggling small businesses? If not why is this not an important issue and what are you going to do about it? 5. Do you agree with changing the Langevin bridge’s name to reconciliation bridge? Beakerhead is happening this weekend and I highly recommend that if you have time you check it out- I know I will be!!! It is a festival which celebrates the mash-up of Art, Science and Engineering and it is sure to have something for everyone. It is incredibly important for students to see the interconnectedness of various disciplines in our changing world and be exposed to the creative, innovative ways that artists, scientists, mathematicians and engineers collaborate and cross paths in their work. Visit the website below for more information on 'how to beakerhead'. It has been a busy couple of weeks at Dr. George. Students, new and returning, have settled in seamlessly and are ready and eager to get to work!
We have begun the year by starting to look at the levels of government in Canada and what democracy is. Students will be bringing home their T.W.A.S journal (This Week At School) every Friday and sharing with you the highlights of their learning from the week. Hopefully this will serve to open the conversation with your child about what they are learning and allow them to show you what they know. Reminder Student led parent teacher conferences are on Thursday, Sept. 21st from 4-8pm and Friday, September 22nd from 8am-1pm. These will be focused on goal setting.
This is where our class will post updates about what we have been working on and where we are going next in our learning.
